Alignment: Atrium creates organizational alignment at XS by defining a clear path beginning with our mission and leading to the individual through a hierarchy of defining objectives, team objectives and individual employee objectives. This structure allows the individual to relate their activities directly to the advancement of the organizationís mission. Employees are provided complete freedom to achieve their objectives being bound only by our guiding principles: client satisfaction, employee satisfaction, XS values and XS standards. The result is an aligned organization with clarity of both expectations and purpose that can be objectively measured.
Accountability: While alignment enables everyone to understand how their individual and team contributions impact the companyís mission, measurement and visibility of performance against time-bound and measureable objectives creates accountability. On a quarterly basis, each individual identifies their top 3 objectives in support of their teamís objectives. Each teamís objectives support a defined set of annual company objectives and company objectives support one of five Defining Objectives. Defining Objectives in turn support and animate our mission. Progress towards each objective is measured monthly by managers using simple red, yellow or green indicators. The degrees of freedom allowed to accomplish each objective are bounded by the guiding principles utilizing Gallup based culture and client metrics for: client satisfaction, employee satisfaction, XS values and Standards. The results can then be represented on a heat map for objective achievement bordered with behavioral scoring metrics. This gives both individuals and managers a clear snapshot of individual performance or it can be rolled up to represent team performance.
Values & Ethics: The XS values are supported and emphasized within the organization and throughout the Atrium modules. Team members have the ability to give kudos to individuals based on behaviors tied to one of the XS values: Dream Big, Work Hard, Have Fun, Play Fair, Speak Out and Stay Sharp. The values are further reinforced with Atriumís Ethics module. The Ethics module assists team members in their professional development through weekly ethics surveys presenting real world ethical dilemmas and potential responses, provided by a world-class panel of ethicists. The team members respond to the survey and are presented with the ethically correct response. The team members then have the ability to discuss the results anonymously in the ethics forum.
Relevance: Making a companyís mission, values, objectives and performance meaningful to an organization has always been a challenge of senior management. Geographic separation, cultural and language differences and just the sheer rapid pace of change can further work to fracture the cohesiveness required to compete successfully. Atrium has enabled XS management to promote and facilitate the interdependence of individuals, teams, mission and values through the use social networking tools on an integrated platform. To further ensure participation, XS TV is intended to drive team members to new developments on Atrium. Atrium is based on Microsoft SharePoint. The SharePoint platform leverages many of the core ingredients necessary to create relevance in todayís corporate environment. Complete integration of social tools for creating colleague lists, project collaboration, expertise search and communication tools made it an easy choice. The flexible architecture of SharePoint enables custom Atrium modules that are used for tracking site activity and rewarding team membersí activity through a Participation Point system. Year-end drawings at the Christmas party yield prizes and recognition for values, ethics, mission and performance. Before Atrium, these subjects might only collect dust on a bookshelf.

The ethics module helps to refresh and inform users about ethical behavior – both in and out of the office – by providing regular opportunities to discuss important ethical situations. When weekly scenarios are posted, employees can post an answer and discuss their reasons for choosing their answers in an anonymous forum. At the end of the week, an explanation of the best solution is posted, along with a graphical display of employee responses to the question.
